Nicehash returns 60% of the coins stolen in the Hack The crypto pool -mineraria based in Slovenia Nicehash managed to return 60% of about 4,700 bitcoins (BTC) stolen in a hacker attack last year, reported STA. In December 2017, when the encryption prices were heading towards historic highs, the missing cryptocurrency was estimated at around EUR 56 million (~ $ 65 million USD).

The price of bitcoin core (BTC) fell from nearly $ 20,000 USD per currency in the weeks following the cybercrime incident to about $ 6,700 at the time of writing, or nearly 70%.

Nicehash was hacked on December 6, when his website went down and he was forced to stop operations. "Our payment system has been compromised and the content of Nicehash's bitcoin wallet has been stolen," the company announced in a Reddit post.

The platform is back online only two weeks after the security breach. His team has pledged to fully repay the pool members for their losses. So far, the repayments have been made on a monthly basis.

"The collection of information and other activities is still under way and implemented with the help of international legal collaboration," the police said in a press release quoted by the STA.

Slovenian police officials commented that this type of investigation is among the most demanding and lengthy, reported by Slovenia. Hackers usually rely abroad and operate from different parts of the world, using a variety of techniques to hide their identity and position.

The headquarters of Ljubljana, Nicehash, claims to be the "largest encrypted market". The service connects sellers and buyers with hashing power. Buyers rent computing power through their online platform to extract the bitcoin core (BTC). Sellers must run Nicehash mining software and connect their hardware to the servers in the pool. The company was founded by Marko Kobal and Matjaž Škorjanc in 2014.
