NASA said, “What is creating these long bright streaks in the sky? Nobody is sure. We can’t stop gawking.
“A STEVE’s large length and unusual colors, when measured accurately, indicate that it could be related to a subauroral ion drift (SAID), a supersonic river of hot atmospheric ions that was previously thought to be invisible.
However, scientists are increasingly confident that STEVE is no ordinary aurora.
Instead, they suspect that STEVE may not even be an aurora at all.
