A SpaceX ship carrying four astronauts is docked at the International Space Station (ISS).

The dragon capsule named “Resilience” by its crew launched from Cape Canaveral, Florida, and it took 27 hours to reach the ISS early Tuesday morning (UK time).

The three American and one Japanese astronauts aboard the aircraft will remain among the stars until April 2021.

ISS astronaut Kate Rubins said “Oh, what a beautiful voice to hear” when she first contacted Dragon Commander Mike Hopkins by radio.

The mission is NASA’s first manned space flight aboard a privately built ship, with Elon Musk’s SpaceX developing the capsule.

When a replacement crew is sent to the ISS in April, they too will board a SpaceX ship.

Boeing will also begin providing transportation for NASA in the future.

Mr. Hopkins is joined by physicist Shannon Walker and Navy Commander Victor Glover, who will be the first black astronaut to spend an extended period of time aboard the ISS.

Commander Glover will also make his first ever trip to the ISS, while the others have already called the station home.

Soichi Noguchi, a Japanese aeronautical engineer, is also on board and is the third person in history to orbit three different types of spacecraft.

A crew of two Russians and another American were already aboard the ISS.
