On November 26, people around the world celebrated Thanksgiving, savoring delicious food with friends and family. However, there were some who celebrated Thanksgiving in orbit hundreds of miles above the earth. On Twitter, NASA recently shared details of how astronauts celebrated the day in space and left the internet amused.
Beginning with the Thanksgiving meal, the US Space Agency has said that astronauts sometimes earn their dinner by doing housework on the space station. Plus, to mashed potatoes and pie, they also get veggies as part of their special dinner. Going further, NASA said, “The space station crews were able to watch football during Thanksgiving thanks to live feeds from Mission Control.” However, they have limited choices and must remain prepared for an unplanned event to occur at any time.

The blog, titled “Celebrating Thanksgiving in Space!” has now created a stir on the Internet. Since it was shared, the post has racked up over 4.6K likes and was flooded with comments. While many praised the writings of the “space warriors” that we “celebrate the ISS”, many others took the opportunity to flood the post with questions. “How many black holes does bing bang swallow?” asked one user. Meanwhile, another user wanted “Happy Thanksgiving Astronauts!”

Thanksgiving Day
On November 26, 1941, United States President Franklin D. Roosevelt passed a bill that made the fourth Thursday in November National Thanksgiving Day. While tradition was respected, there was no specific Thanksgiving date set by federal law. Therefore, the Roosevelt presidency instituted National Thanksgiving Day. In 1939, the month of November had five Thursdays, which landed the tradition on the 30th.
While officials from the U.S. National Retail Dry Goods Association complained that they would cut down on Christmas celebrations, Roosevelt moved the party to the penultimate Thursday, creating a stir. However, later the US Congress cemented the fourth Thursday in November as the new official date and celebrated the tradition accordingly, the day was recognized as “Thanksgiving Day”.
