NASA and SpaceX are targeting the historic launch of NASA’s SpaceX Crew-1 mission with astronauts to the International Space Station (ISS) this Saturday.
NASA astronauts Michael Hopkins, Victor Glover and Shannon Walker, along with Soichi Noguchi of the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency, will launch the SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket and the Crew Dragon spacecraft during the first crew rotation mission to the ISS as part of the NASA’s commercial crew program.
Takeoff is scheduled for Saturday at 7:49 PM EST, from Launch Complex 39A at Kennedy Space Center in Florida.
NASA and SpaceX executives gathered Monday to begin the Flight Readiness Review of the Crew-1 mission at Kennedy Space Center.
The review focuses on preparing SpaceX’s crew transportation system, the ISS and its international partners to support flight, and certifying readiness to fly, according to NASA.
The launch will be the first time that an international crew will fly aboard a NASA-certified American rocket and spacecraft, which is commercially owned and operated from American soil.
