More than 100 drivers were stopped on two streets in Edinburgh as traffic police launched a major crackdown on bad driving in the south of the city.
Officers spent Saturday morning on Burdiehouse Road and Monday morning on Braids Road, where they stopped a total of 110 motorists. Numerous checks were carried out, including breath tests.
Police stopped 64 vehicles on Burdiehouse Road between 8:30 and 10:30 on Saturday. Ten warnings were issued to drivers and four fixed penalty warnings were distributed. There were four negative breath tests and no positive breath tests recorded.
On Monday, 44 cars were stopped and nine warnings were issued on Braids Road. No fixed penalty warnings were issued and a negative breath test recorded. No breath tests were positive and the police confirmed that there were no reports submitted to the tax attorney.
The checks were carried out as part of a Scottish police winter road safety campaign and were unrelated to the application of the new Covid-19 travel restrictions.
Under the new travel laws, people are prohibited from traveling to or from tier three or four areas, where high levels of the virus are still considered.
