20. November 2020 – Google has released iOS widgets for the Gmail, Drive, and Fit apps, and more widgets will follow in the coming weeks.

With version 14 of iOS, Apple expanded the mobile operating system to include widgets on the home screen, and countless software makers have tried to provide widgets for their apps ever since. After Google unveiled search widgets and YouTube in October, new widgets are now being released. As the company announced in a blog post, these are widgets for Gmail, Drive and Fit, while in the case of Calendar and Chrome you have to be patient a little longer.

As expected, the widgets offer instant access to the most important functions. The Gmail widget allows you to compose emails, search your inbox or check unread messages. The Google Drive widget also offers a search function and makes files that you may need most often available for immediate access. Finally, the Fit widget graphically displays fitness data such as steps taken.

Towards the end of the year, Google will continue to release a calendar widget that draws attention to upcoming appointments, and early next year a Chrome widget is promised that supports voice search or QR code scanning. (rd)
