A worker at a Tim Hortons in Stoney Creek and someone at a Canada Post warehouse in Ancaster tested positive for COVID-19.
The employee tested positive for the virus on November 16, according to a spokesperson for Tim Hortons. The last person worked on November 12th.
The Tim Hortons, located at 315 Centennial Parkway N., was temporarily closed on November 17 for cleaning and sanitation. It has since reopened, but it only works with the drive-thru.
The restaurant is expected to reopen on November 22nd.
The employee and others who worked with the person isolated themselves for 14 days, the spokesperson said.
The spokesperson added that workers will be “supported through the company’s COVID-19 compensation fund and restaurant owner Tim Hortons to make up for any lost wages.”
Canada Post
A spokesperson for the Canada Post says it was informed on November 17 that an employee of their Hamilton West Delivery Depot, located at 590 Tradewind Drive in Ancaster, tested positive for COVID-19.
The worker was tested on November 14th.
They were asymptomatic at work, the spokesperson said, and followed physical distancing measures and wore a face cover.
The Canada Post says it followed public health guidelines and informed employees, supported contact tracing, and conducted thorough cleaning and sanitization within the facility.
The Crown Corporation says it regularly talks to employees and requires them to do a self-assessment before getting to work.
They have implemented physical distance across all facilities, use visible markings, and have staggered start times where needed. They also increased cleanliness and the availability of safety equipment, disinfectants and face liners.
Local school boards
Two other students tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday at Nora Frances Henderson Secondary School.
An outbreak will not be declared because Hamilton Public Health Services determined that there was no epidemiological link between these cases and previous ones in the school, a letter to the community says.
School administrators informed all affected families and staff identified as being a close contact. They will self-isolate for 14 days.
A student from Waterdown District High School also tested positive on Thursday.
According to a letter to the school community, public health says there are no close contacts between students or staff in relation to this case.
The student was not in the building when the risk of exposure would have occurred, so public health considers the risk to other students and staff low.
McMaster University
Another McMaster University worker and a student were both diagnosed with COVID-19.
The employee, who is with an outside company, tested positive on Thursday. They were last on campus on November 16 in several areas of the Nuclear Research Building, a statement said.
The student spent time in a warehouse at McMaster Innovation Park on November 17 and 18.
All areas of both buildings have been cleaned, the university said, and any contact tracking is handled by public health.
