Migros raises wages

Migros pays its employees up to half a percent more wages. The “orange giant” announced on Tuesday that it had agreed on this point in this year’s negotiations with the social and contractual partners.

Despite the tense economic situation, the salary account will increase by up to 0.5 percent and will be further increased on January 1 in addition to the compensation payments and special bonuses already paid. This is not a general salary increase, but an individual based on function and performance, a spokeswoman said on request. This will be decided first by the individual Migros companies and then by the employee supervisors.

“In addition to the increase in the salary account negotiated with the social partners, Migros companies are examining possible other services such as merchandise vouchers to recognize the great commitment of employees,” the business giant wrote in the statement. The result of the negotiations applies to employees who are subject to the Migros state collective bargaining agreement (L-GAV).

Bonus of 500 francs for the sales staff

In the current year, Migros had already used more than 30 million francs to compensate for wage gaps for employees affected by part-time work, as well as special bonuses for the enormous effort made by employees in sales, production and logistics to maintain basic services during the lockdown, he said.

People at the front and in logistics would receive a bonus of 500 francs, a Migros spokesperson said on request. Now individual group companies would think about what they could do for employees.

Individual business areas of the group have been affected differently by the corona pandemic. “While retail and online businesses have developed positively this year, other areas of Migros’ business, such as travel, amusement parks and restaurants, have suffered heavily from the effects of Covid-19,” he said.

Hotel plan not included

The payroll increase affects tens of thousands of employees in around 40 companies subject to Migros’ L-GAV. These include all cooperatives, industrial enterprises, Ex Libris and Migros Bank. The hotel plan is not included. The traveling daughter has her own collective bargaining agreement, on which negotiations are still underway, a spokeswoman said. Denner is also not affiliated with L-GAV.

For comparison: the competitor Coop will increase the wages of its employees by 1% in the next year.
