With immediate effect, customers can independently fill up to 70 products in the first branches – and thus shop without packaging. One of the first Migros supermarkets with this offer is located in Baden AG: in the so-called automatic filling stations, products from the orange giant’s own industry can be weighed, tapped and filled. These include: organic foods such as pasta, rice, legumes, breakfast cereals, and confectionery. Migros promises: “Own brands are offered at the same price as packaged products”.
Self-filling must be extended nationwide
Baden has the first pilot branch for self-supplying food. Other Migros branches in German-speaking Switzerland will follow shortly. A spokesperson says some experience needs to be gained before it is widely introduced nationally. So it will be tweaked a bit “so that shopping with reusable containers can actually be integrated into everyday life”.
The retail giant is convinced of the success of gas stations. Experience has been gained since August with pilot stations for filling detergents. In the Migros branches in Marktgasse Bern and Shoppyland Schönbühl, customers can refill the empty plastic bottle. Then print a label yourself and stick it on the bottle. “This pilot project exceeds the expectations of the managers of the industrial company Mibelle,” says a spokesperson for BLICK. “The six-month sales target has already been reached after two and a half weeks.”
A customer survey showed that nine out of ten people want to use such a service station again because they are “very satisfied” or “satisfied” with the station.
