Microsoft’s Pluton is the next generation security module for Windows PCs

The new generation of Windows PCs will have a great opportunity to be equipped with a module called “Pluton” to replace the existing TPM module. This Microsoft-initiated project has won participation from X86 and ARM chip vendors such as Intel, AMD and Qualcomm, and will become an important security component of Windows PCs in the future.

At its simplest, Pluton is the same as TPM (Trusted Platform Module) in that it provides services such as key control, random number generation, remote authentication, and sealed storage. However, the TPM is processor independent, so if a hacker can monitor data between the TPM and the CPU, he can still steal important information. Pluton is designed to integrate directly with the CPU to close this potential loophole. According to Microsoft’s instructions, Pluton will emulate the TPM chip early on, so that the original applications can be accessed directly via the TPM API, so that Pluton can be used early in launch without waiting for other manufacturers. Microsoft is even ready to update the firmware via a secure remote connection in the future to address more unknown risks.

It is not yet clear when the Pluton-equipped chips will debut, but AMD and Intel have just been replaced, I’m afraid it will take a while for Pluton to appear in products.
