Residents across the central United States reported seeing a stunning fireball on Wednesday as a meteor lit up the night sky. The phenomenon was captured on video, with footage from a security camera showing a bright flash in the night sky with a long tail.
Dozens of people flocked to the International Meteorological Organization (IMO) to report their sightings.
Jeremy told IMO: “It was an interesting way to wake up!
“I was having some tea and I happened to look out of my west-facing window and saw the meteor.
“It almost felt like the end of a spark.”
Al said, “Great. Very bright. I’ve seen maybe two or three in my life. This was by far the brightest.”
Shane added: “I’ve never seen a meteor burn like this.”
Anthony said, “I’ve seen shooting stars in the past, but this one was so much bigger and felt closer than the rest, it was so clean.”
Joe simply said, “It literally took my breath away.”

The IMO said: “Fireballs are meteors that appear brighter than normal.
“Because of the speed with which they hit the Earth’s atmosphere, fragments larger than a millimeter have the ability to produce a bright flash as they cross the skies above.
“These bright meteors are what we call fireballs and often arouse fear and amazement for those who witness them.”
Perhaps one of the most famous fireballs to hit Earth came in 2013 when a meteor exploded over Chelyabinsk, Russia.
The explosion was caused by a 20-meter meteor that caused such an explosion that it caused damage of over £ 25.3 million (€ 30 million) to the small Russian town.
