Mercadona opens the 17th supermarket in Portugal and more are on the way
The newest store of the Spanish chain is located in Paços de Ferreira. Three more spaces will arrive in the country by the end of the year.

The opening has been postponed by a few days, but there is still another Mercadona supermarket in Portugal. The new store of the Spanish chain opened this Thursday 5 November in Paços de Ferreira. It is the 17th brand space in the country. Three more are expected by the end of the year and job offers have already been opened for the openings that will take place in 2021.
The supermarket is located on Rua de Ponte Real. It has 1900 square meters, parking with 170 spaces, and will be open every day from nine in the morning. This shop has allowed the creation of 60 jobs.
The structure of the spaces is identical to those that the brand has opened in Portugal since 2019. It has a dining area with more than 40 dishes that you can take home or eat right there; the area of milk and chilled juices; the corner dedicated to sushi; cured meats with Iberian ham; and a machine that makes freshly squeezed orange juice.
There is a fishmonger area.
It has several private label products, some made in Portugal, ready to eat, baked goods, fruit and cosmetics. The corridors are wide and there are two types of trolleys for the transport of purchases, which do not require any currency.
On the opening day of another store, Mercadona announces when it will be next in the country. It is located in Águeda and will open next Monday, November 16th. By the end of the year, the brand will also reach Campanhã, in Porto, and Viana do Castelo. These will be the three remaining supermarkets to reach ten openings in 2020 and 20 in the country as a whole.
Starting next year, the company’s expansion plan foresees a further increase in its presence. Lisbon, for example, is in the mid- and long-term plans and could receive its first opening in 2022 or 2023.
The chain has already opened job offers for the next spaces. It is in place Mercadona who can submit the application. There are vacancies for shop operators, maintenance assistants and refrigeration technicians. Porto, Guimarães, Vila Nova de Famalicão and Santa Maria da Feira are the headquarters of the first four stores that will arrive in 2020.
