Starting this week, a mass testing program will be launched in Greater Glasgow to track down the virus more effectively.
Residents in five of Scotland’s coronavirus hotspots, including Glasgow and Renfrewshire, are being targeted, the BBC reports.
It means that asymptomatic cases – people who show no symptoms – can be identified and help curb the spread of transmission.
Scottish clinical director Professor Jason Leitch said the program could be extended to more communities if successful.
Glasgow
In Glasgow, residents of Dalmarnock and parts of Pollokshields are also encouraged to book a test if they have no symptoms of Covid.
Two sites are operational from Monday to December 9th from 9:00 to 16:00 and each will be able to test up to 800 people per day.
The units are located in the Emirates Arena car park and in the grounds opposite the Albert Drive Tramway Theater, according to a spokesperson for the Glasgow City Council.
They will be managed by the Scottish Ambulance Service and aim to deliver results within 24-48 hours.
Asymptomatic tests at all locations can be booked online by local residents.
Renfrewshire
A drop-in testing service will be available at Johnstone Town Hall, Renfrewshire from Wednesday for seven days.
Local residents will be offered lateral flow tests, which can be processed on site and provide a result within one hour.
It will have the capacity to test up to 12,000 people per week.

It comes after Health Secretary Jeane Freeman announced plans for a significant expansion of testing for hospital patients, healthcare and social workers, and communities in Level 4 areas.
From next week, all emergency admissions will be tested for covid and bi-weekly lateral flow tests will be introduced for all patient-facing healthcare personnel working in hospitals, Covid-19 assessment centers and the Scottish ambulance service.
