WINNIPEG – The Manitoba government has launched a new digital campaign to encourage safe local shopping amid new public health orders.
Finance Minister Scott Fielding and Minister of Economic Development and Education Ralph Eichler made the announcement on Friday, noting that the campaign came as a recommendation from the premier’s economic opportunities advisory board.
“Our local businesses offer high quality products and services and are creative and innovative in finding ways to deliver them,” Eichler said.
“These businesses are our neighbors, our friends and they have been there for us. Now, we have to be there for them. Let’s support them and shop locally during the holiday season. “
The #ShopLocalMB campaign comes as the province tightened its restrictions and banned the in-person sale of non-essential items.
As part of the campaign, the province enlisted a local design company to tell the stories of Manitoba’s businesses, entrepreneurs, manufacturers and creators. The initiative will remind people how to shop safely during the COVID-19 pandemic, which includes delivery, pickup or drive-thru, and sticking to basics when shopping in person is needed.
Costa Cholakis, co-owner of Broadway Florists, said he appreciates all the Manitobans who support the venue and buy from local businesses in these tough times.
“We are very confident that the provincial government has created this #ShopLocalMB campaign, which will help us and many other local businesses across Manitoba,” he said.
“We value all of our loyal customers and with this campaign, this kind of support will make a difference and keep us going for years to come.”
The province will present the #ShopLocalMB campaign on its social channels.
