Manila residents will be paid in Ethereum to clean up polluted beaches
The residents of Manila will soon be rewarded in Ethereum if they clean some of the heavily polluted beaches found in the capital of this nation. All this will be made possible through a decentralized-based app Ethereum network.
Joseph Lubin, the Ethereum co-creator and CEO of ConsenSys, which has been considered one of the biggest software blockchain developments you can find in the world, has continued to tell the participants Manila they will be paid in ETH when only a few hours will pass to clear the beaches.
ConsenSys and the Bounties network are providing a new type of model in which it will allow people to finance the causes directly without the use of intermediaries easily.
The Philippines has proven to be the best place to start
The concept of Bounty has been considered a valid application that can be used within the blockchain technology. It is because the participants are able to use the public ledger of any type in an efficient and transparent manner blockchain network.
It is designed as a dAPP on the Ethereum platform, which will allow any user to quickly create prizes and be able to reward participants with Ethereum. Therefore, this platform will be easily used to support various ongoing initiatives and causes.
The ConsenSys Impact, which is a subsidiary of ConsenSys in New York, has gone on to introduce the not-for-profit initiative that they called Bounties for the Oceans, a project that was established to ensure that they promote the use of blockchain inside the country.
In a year, plastic pollution costs about 100,000 marine animals and a million seabirds. But with the Sizes for the ocean, the company is asking people to present their demonstration of the plastic cleansing contribution they have made as a means to foster this new long-term positive behavioral change. An initiative that will push people to stop depending on the centralized system and just go out and do it on their own.
This initiative came at a time when the Philippines went ahead to reopen the Boracay. A place that has been considered a very popular tourist destination as it has been known for its crystal clear sea. A place that has become an acclaimed diving spot that has distinguished dusty white sand.
The Philippines was considered the best region in which a non-profit blockchain initiative should be launched, the reason is; the country was able to rapidly adopt cryptographic coins. Because Bitcoin is used as a form of payment in most areas, while the central bank recognizes money as a remittance method.
As a result, the use of crypto-currency within the country has actually increased, one that has been facilitated by the work of locally available platforms, such as Coins.ph. Platforms that have been able to provide significant liquidity to local users within the country.
ConsenSys and the Union Bank
The ConsenSys platform went ahead to secure a strategic partnership with the Union Bank; this is back in May. The Union Bank was considered one of the largest commercial banks based in Philippines. They went ahead to the partner in order to efficiently conduct a payment system that can operate efficiently in real time. The pilot test will be carried out with about five rural banks.
But this is not all we will see from this great movement as there are big companies, this is included ConsenSys platform and other high-profile conglomerates within South Korea, who have taken the initiative to work with companies, individuals and different crypto-companies within the Philippines in helping the local market to sustain the current exponential rate of growth.
