The gaming industry is currently one of the sectors most affected by blockchain. The penetration of register technology distributed in video games is only contributing to the growth of the sector. A prime example is a giant video game company, Atari, which recently collaborated with the blockchain startup company Animoca Brands to create blockchain versions of two popular mobile games, RollerCoaster Tycoon Touch and Goon Squad.

According to the press release published Tuesday, Animoca Brands will have the rights to produce and publish blockchain versions of Atari RollerCoaster Tycoon Touch and Goon Squad games globally, excluding China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macao.

RollerCoaster Tycoon Touch has over 19 million downloads globally. The iconic game is centered on the construction and management of an amusement park, in order to attract more visitors to ensure the continued success of the park. As stated in the press release, the game saw a boost from an "expansion of" Water Park "as well as new restaurant features in collaboration with" Foodgod "Jonathan Cheban.

As for Goon Squad, this game drops players into an underworld dominated by mobsters, gambling games and fast-paced card battles. The goal of the players is to move from a humble Goon to the respected Godfather.

As a consequence of the agreement, the updated versions of the games will be characterized by the integration of non-fungible token (NFT).

Frederic Chesnais, CEO of Atari, commented on the agreement:

"We are proud and happy to enter into this long-term strategic relationship with Animoca Brands, which also allows us to become shareholders of one of the most exciting innovators in the decentralized gaming world." We hope this agreement paves the way for a further cooperation on other Atari products ".

The co-founder of Animoca Brands Yat Siu is also enthusiastic about the deal:

"This agreement is a special moment for me because I started my career working with Atari and using Atari computers. The RollerCoaster Tycoon franchise is, like many of Atari's properties, a true evergreen, having been around for two decades. Given the strategic and commercial elements of this incredibly fun simulation, it's a perfect candidate for blockchain adaptation. "

According to the announcement, Animoca intends to release the updated blockchain version of Atari's mobile games in the second half of 2019, with the license agreement valid until March 31, 2022.

As payment for the game development and publication license, Animoca Brands will pay Atari a minimum guarantee against future revenue of US $ 250,000. The sum will be paid in shares of the company's share capital. A revenue share will be paid to Atari after the gross revenue generated by the Games will exceed a total of US $ 500,000.

As stated in the press release, the shares offered in consideration to Atari will be subject to a lock-up period of nine months from the effective date and will be unlocked by the lock-up in a phased program that will extend until the end of August 2019.
