Indian company Mahindra announced that it would use blockchain technology for its grape export business. It aims to dispel global concerns about supply chain transparency and the overall image of the Indian grape export brand.
Speaking of development, Ashok Sharma, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Mahindra Agri Solutions Ltd, said: "We are the first company in the world to introduce the blockchain technology for grapes, which will allow the consumer to be sure that that he is consuming is safe. "
Sharma, in a conversation with the news portal, Hindu Business Line, added that this adoption will help change the perception of fruits and foods of Indian origin, adding that there are very few cases of use in India on blockchain technology. .
The portal also reported that the company will initially distribute around 40-50 containers of grape with blockchain technology, out of the 800-900 total containers to be exported this season, the supply chain for which it has already been created. This number is set to increase post proof of concept. The dispatches will start in January or February and for now the reference markets will be China and Europe.
This is far from the first case in which Mahindra tried to exploit blockchain technology. In August, the company signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), with the Telangana government for the launch of the first Indian Blockchain District in the state.
