If you think of a private club, maybe the Savile Club or Annabel's in Mayfair could come to mind. From the mischievous to the plush, these physical places where the rich could mingle, full of expensive whiskey and cigars are the basis of the stereotype "club of the old boys".
But the attraction of a shared space to collaborate, especially online, is growing. Similar to Soho House and now Home Noir they are bringing private members' clubs into the 21st century. With the blockchain at the center of this, the new venture sees itself as a home for those who are part of the blockchain industry while encouraging innovation and investment. Although it is mainly based on the online community, it also provides for the opening of physical locations in New York, London, Shanghai, Seoul, Paris, Berlin, Tel Aviv, Tokyo, Barcelona, Beijing and Moscow.
Club of members for the digital age
From Mumsnet to Reddit, moving to online communities can not be ignored when it comes to creating a club of successful members for the 21st century, according to the founder and CEO of Home Noir, Luca Longobardi.
Explaining why he felt the urge to create Home Noir. Longobardi said: & Nbsp;
We are in such a critical moment in human history. We are approaching the fourth industrial revolution, defined by instant networking and feedback between digital and physical. In times like these, where people are experiencing so many traumas, disorders and disparities, the saying "building a longer table, not a higher fence" has never been more true. In Home Noir we are building a proverbial table, existing both physically and digitally. It is essential that there is an online community, so it is accessible and we are far-reaching, beyond the cities we intend to open as great minds are not limited to cosmopolitan centers! We will use the power of technology to make these digital interactions as real and fluid as possible, but I truly believe there is nothing like a human presence and a touch to create a meaningful connection. To this end, our physical clubs play a key role, a way to make the collaboration we are looking for live. This is mirrored by the offline experiences that will vary from one-hour workshops in our clubs to the one-week planned summits in unique destinations. "
There is a clear change in power, with entrepreneurs trying to collaborate with their colleagues, and an increasing number of workers taking on freelance positions so that they can work flexibly, Longobardi believes that this change in the job hierarchy should be translated into the world of the private member club.& Nbsp;
He said:
Power no longer resides in value chains, but at the center of networks and collaboration has become the new sustainable competitive advantage, a world of mass collaboration to create the best version of it. We need to collaborate, allowing greater critical thinking, emotional commitment and creativity. And to succeed we need to learn how to master otherness by establishing a strong connection with people, physically and digitally ".
Existing in the #metoo era
Collaborative strength is a broad theme that Longobardi is embracing, especially in the wake of the #metoo movement. While he successfully launched two London restaurants, 108 Garage and Southam Street, his previous experience was financed following what he describes as "the dream of an American capitalist", where he focused exclusively on the power of money. But it had to lead to an unfortunate end as he discovered during the voyage that his fairly common name had given him a vulnerability he had not expected – a case of mistaken identity.& Nbsp;
In 2010 he was unjustly arrested after Interpol identified him on the wanted list. He spent a month in one of Brazil's highest security prisons, before being released once the Italian police had established that his arrest was due to his "common Italian surname". But the drama returned in 2018 when he was arrested again in Dubai because his name had not yet been removed from Interpol's list. While he is jokingly known as "The banker of the mafia", Longobardi wants to push himself into a decentralized world, where communication and truth are at the center.
To succeed, he decided to use the blockchain. In this he believes that this will bring Casa Noir to become a decentralized community that "collaborates, participates, builds and shares, in complete transparency, autonomy and trust, where community activities are recorded in real time on the blockchain and everyone has access".
It is an approach that Longobardi believes can be scaled to an unprecedented level in all sectors of our society. He said:
After years of working in finance, my mission is no longer a selfish effort to gain more zeros on my bank account. I have a significant desire to lead the mass adoption of the blockchain and its ability to create a transparent, decentralized and democratic world ".
Home Noir hopes that the decentralization principle is suitable to resist the trials and tribulations of the 21st century. They are already trying to correct the gender balance within the blockchain technology and hope to nurture the enthusiasm of the members instead of relying on an investment whale. The club is also a fund in its own right, providing pod space for work projects and investments when required.
The members will pay both and will be rewarded by the Noir token, although the project is still somewhat out of the way with plans for an incoming ICO.
