Litecoin [LTC] The core corrects a bug that could cause DoS after detecting exploits on Bitcoin [BTC]

[ad_2][ad_1]

The Core team of Litecoin [LTC] recently launched an emergency update that corrects a Denial-of vulnerability -Service [DoS] in the code. This also includes a warning to upgrade to the version as soon as possible, so as not to leave vulnerability vulnerable.

The bug can be exploited by miners who send duplicate inputs and is said to be able to block various implementations. Due to Litecoin and Bitcoin [BTC] using similar code for their implementation, the bug was also found on some Bitcoin blockchain implementations.

The bug will cause the Litecoin Core to crash when trying to validate a block containing a transaction that attempts to spend the same input twice. These blocks will be rendered invalid and can only be created by miners who are willing to lose income from that block because miners would not continue to extract the blocks if the reward for the block is not given.

The update also came with a note notifying users that versions prior to 0.16 are not compatible with wallets created after 0.16. However, existing portfolios already created before the upgrade will not be affected.

The team made it clear that the update is also compatible with the Linux kernel, macOS 10.8+ and versions of Windows following Vista. The version must also be verified with the GPG key supplied with the version.

"It will be interesting to know how many other altcoins are affected because of the newly discovered bitcoin core vulnerability"

Developer sickpig commented on the original bug fix on Github: [19659007] "As far as I can tell, the list of people who have been disclosed the bug is not exhaustive, not a long time, so make sure you have a correct way to tell the projects / developers that their code is to risk is a mandatory IMHO.It would be nice to know what actions have been taken to implement the aforementioned coordination process. The goal is to improve the process in case of new revelations that may happen in the future.
