Lights, lights, camera, action! Even more light! As part of the seventh year of the Festival of Scientific Films – FVF 2020, we offer you documentaries dedicated to topical topics. FVF 2020 will take place on Wednesday 11 November 2020, exceptionally as part of Slovakia’s Science and Technology Week via free online broadcast.
Light pollution … what are we threatening? More and more people ask this question. Also for this reason we have decided to address this topic in the context of this year’s FVF 2020. Two scientific documentaries on problems with excess light will be streamed during the event. The loss of the natural dark sky affects many areas of human life and more and more questions arise about the threats of light smog and its impact on our body. We will look for answers in documentaries and subsequent discussions with experts.
The dark side of light (DE / 2009)
Screening at 16:00
The German documentary is dedicated to the threat of artificial light, which is responsible for the death of a huge number of insects, negatively affects the migration of birds and complicates the life of animals in our environment. Excessive light from improperly installed lamps and billboards obviously has negative effects on ourselves. It causes psychosomatic problems in people.
The film will follow moderate discussion with a recognized scientist, head of the Department of Animal Physiology and Ethology, Faculty of Sciences, Charles University of Bratislava prof. RNDr. Michal Zeman, DrSc., who, as an expert in light contamination, will tackle the theme of excess light. From the position of expert in insect research, researcher at the Institute of Zoology of the Slovak Academy of Sciences Mgr Marek Semelbauer, PhD. explain the negative effects of light pollution on nature.
