The annual meeting is an excellent opportunity for Ethereum developers, designers, artists and researchers to meet to enhance and educate the whole community towards creating better and more decentralized apps.

DevCon4 Main topics

The main topics or issues that will be dealt with are the following six critical areas:

• Privacy

• Scalability

• Design and UX

Focus on scalability

For many enthusiasts, investors and developers of Ethereum, the most urgent problem is to increase network throughput. Many investors strongly believe that innovations in platform scalability could be the key that will help ETH regain its high prices in the cryptocurrency industry. To address this problem, the agenda of the DevCon4 conference includes these noteworthy sessions during the event:

  • October 30, 2018: Swarm Team updates – Aron Fischer of the Ethereum Foundation will lead the discussion and lead participants through current SWARM progress. SWARM is the level of native storage and distribution infrastructure of the Web 3.0.
  • October 31, 2018: STARK – This is a dedicated workshop event that will showcase the developers of the Ethereum community to STARK science and technology. Vitalik Buterin, the co-founder of Ethereum, even proposed to use ZCash technology to scale the platform.
  • October 31, 2018: Reduction of gas tariffs to optimize smart contracts
  • November 1, 2018: Raiden Network – Discussing how the application of the custom Raiden protocol could push the network to become economic, scalable and fast. Raiden offers off-platform system scalability solutions to enable low-cost, scalable, and almost instant payments.
  • 2 November 2018: plasma update: DevCon4 speakers will also provide the latest updates on the progress of their research on plasma and their latest projects. Plasma Cash, a notable plasma variant, will be highlighted for discussion.

Long history of successful conferences

The first meeting of Ethereum Developers took place four years ago in Berlin in 2014. The class-level conference was called Devcon0 and it is here that the initial visions of Ethereum were presented and shared with the founding members and main developers. While last year's conference had a total participation of around 2,000 people, this number should be much larger this year.

For many fans and developers, the DevCon is like a family reunion. According to the organizers of the event, the Ethereum Foundation, the goal of this annual event is to empower the ETH community and bring the tools and protocols of Ethereum in the world. It is also an opportunity to educate developers on the best ways to develop decentralized applications to strengthen and increase the value of the network.
