From January next year, Google has decided to charge a 30% fee on all applications and content provided on Google Play.

Legislative amendments are underway to ban it in the National Assembly.

Yeo and Ya made a single voice saying: “Let’s stop the evil of Google” and the opposition party suddenly changed position.

There was a brake on invoice processing.

◀ Report ▶

Android smartphone users usually download the app from “Google Play”.

However, Google plans to apply a 30% payment fee to all apps distributed via “Play” starting January 20 next year.

It was decided to charge a 30% commission for content such as webtoons and web novels, but government and opposition parties criticized them simultaneously during the latest state audit.

[한준호/더불어민주당 의원(지난달 22일)]“If it’s in the spirit of a startup that Google originally aimed at, it really started in a warehouse, that’s not fair.”

[박성중/국민의힘 의원(지난달 22일)]“Forcing” in-app payment “is a way to lock everything in your cage.”

At the time, Yeo-Ya agreed to ban app market operators from enforcing certain payment methods and to deal with a bill that gave the Korea Communications Commission the right to conduct an investigation and corrective order.

But in a month the atmosphere changed.

This is because the opposition party has been cautious.

Members of the People’s Power Committee said: “Google uses the same policy not only in Korea but also around the world, but if only Korea is regulated, trade problems can arise.”

I didn’t even accept the suggestion to take the time to speculate.

[홍정민/더불어민주당 의원(지난 17일)]“If the bill is passed later, retroactive enforcement will certainly be a problem.”

[박성중 국민의힘 의원 (지난 17일)]“I can’t understand even if I say a couple of times to look more calmly and judge.”

In recent years, the United States has also filed an antitrust lawsuit against Google, and government checks against Google’s unfair behavior have been in full swing.

Startups and others have appealed that the mobile ecosystem will grow when a business operator like Google begins to coexist with platform and content producers.
