Jerusalem: Israeli Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Gilad Ardan, said the United Nations should recognize what he called “Jewish refugees” from Arab countries and Iran.
And Ardan wrote in an opinion piece published Monday in the Jerusalem Post newspaper: “The 850,000 Jewish refugees were expelled from Arab countries and Iran after the establishment of Israel (in 1948).”
He added: “As for international bodies like the United Nations, they are forgotten refugees, but for us their struggle will continue.”
Palestinian officials had claimed in recent years that Israel was raising the issue in an attempt to trade the Palestinian refugee issue for what was called, the Jewish refugee issue.
The Palestinians denied that Jews were forced to leave Arab countries, citing the survival of Jewish neighborhoods, and even the presence of Jewish communities, in a number of Arab capitals to date.
On the other hand, Israel does not recognize any rights to Palestinian refugees who have been forced to abandon their properties and real estate, following the massacres that accompanied the establishment of the State of Israel.
According to Palestinian and United Nations estimates, the number of Palestinians in the diaspora exceeds 6 million.
But Adran accused the Arabs of expelling Jews and seizing their properties.
“The United Nations has not provided assistance to those forced out of their homes, and has since done little to acknowledge the tremendous injustice they have suffered,” he said.
He added: “There has been no international condemnation of these Jews being attacked and killed, their properties plundered and their properties stolen, often from their neighbors, and with the support of the authorities.”
He continued: “In the decades that followed this dangerous expulsion, the United Nations only helped so-called Palestinian refugees.”
“I consider it a moral obligation to correct the mistake that happened to our brothers and sisters from the Arab lands. As Israel’s ambassador to the United Nations, I am committed to ensuring that their stories now become part of the international consciousness,” Ardan continued.
“I will conduct a diplomatic campaign to pass a resolution in the UN General Assembly to recognize their situation. I am not trying to disagree with our neighbors, but to ensure that equality and justice are finally provided to Jewish communities. that the world has despised for more than 70 years, “the Israeli representative said.
He added: “We will mobilize foreign ministers around the world, together with the help of Jewish organizations. I believe we will be able to put an end to the ignorance of the United Nations on this issue.”
“Peace cannot be achieved except through strength, mutual respect and the recognition of the truth,” he said. “If the international community is serious about promoting peace between us and our neighbors, it must also acknowledge the historical facts, including the shock of the displacement of Jews from Arab countries.”
The Israeli delegate to the United Nations said that “entire companies have been wiped out from Morocco to Iraq and from Egypt to Syria, Lebanon, Iran and others”.
There were no immediate comments from the countries concerned on the allegations by the Israeli representative to the United Nations.
