Every year, when the iPhone and Apple Watch are replaced with new devices, a lot of things have to be transferred from the old devices to the new ones. You might be worried if the Octopus card in the iPhone and Apple Watch can be transferred to the new device / new watch normally? Now Apple has announced that it will provide walk-in support in 6 Apple Stores across Hong Kong. If users run into problems, they can find “The Smurfs” for assistance. But of course it’s the fastest and most convenient way to get it at home! The following is a demonstration of how to transfer Octopus from iPhone to another iPhone.
Octopus data stored in the cloud is not afraid of getting lost
In fact, for each virtual Octopus card registered with Apple Pay, the data will be stored in the network cloud server, automatically linked to your Apple ID, and will not be lost easily. So even if you lose your iPhone / Apple Watch head unit, you still need to replace the old one with a new one. Just add your Octopus to the new one again.
Step 1
To make the program smoother, it is best to remove the Octopus board in the old machine. The method is to open the “Wallet” app built into iOS, open the Octopus tab and press the (…) button in the upper right corner of the screen.
Step 2
On the Octopus tab settings page in the image, scroll all the way down, click “Remove this tab,” then confirm in the pop-up dialog.
Step 3
This way, your Octopus card will disappear from the wallet. But you can rest assured that the Octopus card is still linked to your Apple ID on the network cloud server.
Retrieve the Octopus card in the new machine
Step 1
On another iPhone, as long as you can access the internet, you can reset your Octopus card. First open the “Wallet” app and press the (+) button at the top right of the screen to add a new card.
Step 2
Skip the Apple Pay welcome screen and select “Octopus” in the newly added card types menu.
Step 3
The information of the Octopus card linked to your Apple ID will be displayed on the screen (if you have more than one card, you must select) After verifying that it is your Octopus card, click on “Next”;
Step 4
Wait patiently for the Octopus card to be added to your iPhone again. The screen will first display “Contact card issuer …”, after successfully obtaining the card information, the card will be added and the words “Add to wallet” will be displayed at this time.
Step 5
When the card has been added successfully, the screen will remind you that the card will be set up as an “express transport card”, meaning you don’t need to unlock your phone and you can directly touch the card to pay when you drive and spend.
You can see the restored Octopus card on the wallet screen. The only thing you will lose are the recent consumption records registered in the “Wallet” App.
Apple Watch has rejoined the Octopus card
The method to add Octopus card to Apple Watch again is simple too: open “Watch” app on iPhone, then open “Wallet and Apple Pay”, then click “Add card”, you can find the Octopus card linked to your Apple ID, Add it back to your new watch.
▲ Open the Apple Watch app on iPhone and open “Wallet and Apple Pay”
▲ Choose “Add Card” again and follow the on-screen instructions to add your Octopus again
Check your past consumption data and receive transportation subsidies
But you can rest assured that for Octopus cards added to Apple Pay, all consumption records will be stored on the Octopus cloud server. You just need to install the “Octopus” app from the App Store, then insert your Apple Pay Octopus card and you can check your Octopus card’s recent and even recent three month usage records.
Obviously your transport subsidy remains intact, if you have a subsidy you can still receive it through the App.
Samsung Smart Octopus mobile phone cannot be transferred to iPhone
The above-mentioned Octopus transfer relies on the Octopus card itself being linked to your Apple ID at the time of application (or during transfer from physical card to iPhone). If you have a Samsung smartphone handy and have registered Smart Octopus via Samsung Pay, it is not possible to transfer it directly to iPhone. You have to cancel Smart Octopus in Samsung Pay. The balance and deposit will be returned to you in the form of a check. Then you need to re-register the new Octopus to Apple Pay on iPhone.
It may be necessary to re-register the access control system
The teaching introduced this time refers to the transfer of the Octopus from the old machine to the new one, but will only involve the transfer of the Octopus balance, consumption records and transport subsidies. May not include relocation of access control system to accommodation / building. After Octopus has been transferred, your access control records may no longer be valid. You should check with your residential complex or building management unit as soon as possible to re-register with your newly relocated Octopus (if necessary).
