Renault Samsung Motors’ main model, the QM6, is gaining popularity with consumers after undergoing a makeover last year. Renault Samsung Motors, which had struggled with poor sales, became a subsidiary model and at one time showed greater popularity than Santa Fe. This year, Renault Samsung has launched several new cars such as XM3 and SM6 restyled, but it is no exaggeration to say that the current sales volume is not good enough to hold a candle to the QM6 alone.
Recently, Renault Samsung Motors did the QM6 facelift again. To cope with the new restyling of Sorento and Santa Fe, it seems to change again after just over a year. It was QM6, which had been rated ok in the past, but with this change it looks like it will definitely surpass Santa Fe, whose rating is not good. Today’s AutoPost Issue Plus takes another step in revamping the QM6, which changed again in a year.

4.003 October Santa Fe
4,323 QM6 units sold
Santa Fe launched a facelift model in July. The design and specifications have been greatly improved and, in fact, have changed significantly to a level comparable to the complete change. However, the consumer reaction is cold. In particular, it is full of criticisms about the design of the front, nicknamed ‘Mask Edition’. Maybe that’s why the Santa Fe wasn’t a good start for Hyundai’s main model, and when I wanted to climb to 5,842 in August, it dropped to 4,496 in September and 4,003 in October. In fact, the new auto effect is not being received correctly.
The situation is now also postponed to QM6. In July, when the Santa Fe launched, the QM6 sold 2,638 units, which was down more than half from the previous month, but the sales volume increased again from August to 4,323 units in October. In this situation, the QM6 should definitely surpass Santa Fe because it was recently changed to a face lift.
Owners say
Advantages of QM6
QM6 is well received by the owners. Looking at the benefits of the QM6 that the owners say, the first is the design. Renault’s unique family look is said to be quite attractive as it expresses strength and softness at the same time.
The second is that you can choose an LPG engine. The rules on buying LPG cars were relaxed last year, Renault Samsung Motors quickly introduced the LPG model to worry the market, and it is the only SUV currently sold in Korea to choose LPG. It has the advantage of exhibiting a power comparable to that of a petrol engine, it is quiet and has a low fuel cost.
Finally, the cost trend is excellent. It is much cheaper than Santa Fe at a base price of 23.76 million won before the facelift. Even with all the main options selected, it’s about the same as the base price in Santa Fe. Also, as the price of the new Tucson has risen, it has garnered attention as a cheaper midsize SUV from Tucson.
It focuses on a cost-performance strategy, but there is also a premium model, the Premier Trim. In other words, the QM6 had the advantage of being able to buy cars according to taste while providing a variety of options from reasonable demand to high-end.
To increase the detail
Targeted design
Looking at the QM6, which has been revamped again after a year, the overall design is not much different from the previous one and the focus is on improving the details. The front view changes the grille pattern to a hexagon and the QM6 logo is featured below the grille. And like the SM6, a chrome bar was added to the bumper and the fog lights were integrated with the daytime running lights.
The appearance is not very different from the previous one. The taillight has been modified to the same shape as the SM6. However, there is no thin chrome bar in the center of the SM6 lamp. And a dynamic turn signal was applied to the taillight. The design of the chrome decoration representing the muffler under the bumper has also changed.
The interior is almost the same as before, including the dashboard, center fascia, center console, door trim and steering wheel. Even compared to the previous model, there are few differences. If you dare to find a point of change, the brown interior color should be added again.
Like the SM6, the design was well priced from the initial model, so it appears the change was focused on the details rather than the important changes. They chose stability rather than adventure. Major changes are expected to be shown in the full change template.
Compared to the previous model
Increase of 1 million won
Looking at the price of the new QM6, 2.0 gasoline costs 24.7 million won for SE, 2631 million won for LED, 28.72 million won for RE, 33.39 million won for RE signature and 33.24 million won for premium. When employment registration tax is added, SE is 26.4 million won, LE is 28.07 million won, RE is 3.064 million won, RE signature is 32.42 million won and the prize is 35.4 million won.
2.0 LPG is SE 25.35 million won, LE 25.29 million won, RE 28.33 million won, RE signature 30 million won and Premier 32.4 million won. When employment registration tax is added, SE is 25.98 million won, LE is 27.76 million won, RE is 32.62 million won, RE signature is 32 million won and the prize is 34.62 million won. The price of the full premium option plus all options is KRW 35.81 million for 2.0 petrol and KRW 34.63 million for 2.0 petrol and KRW 38.2 million for 2.0 petrol and KRW 3694 million for petrol 2.0 when the registration fee is added. Excluding the new 2.0 LPG Premier, the overall price increased by 1 million won.
Even if I change years
The range of modifications is narrow enough to be safe
The facelift model has changed yet again, but the consumer response is not very good. This is because it is a face lift model, but the magnitude of the change is small. There are no noticeable changes in the exterior except for the front grille and rear light, and it is safe to assume that the interior is almost the same. Looking at the optional specs, the Fuel Vision LED headlight has been changed from the current RE trim to the standard all trim. The taillight enhances the three-dimensional effect and as an option a dynamic turn signal is applied.
In addition, a new frameless rearview mirror option has been added and an emergency brake assist system that includes adaptive cruise control, distance warning system and pedestrian detection, available only in diesel models, can be selected in models petrol. And reflecting the popularity of the LPG model, a Premier LPG coating has also been added. At this level, the range of changes is small enough to be called a model year change rather than a facelift.
Same broadcast as before
All-wheel drive is also not applied
QM6 has been reported for its lack of output from the past. The 2.0 petrol engine is only 144 horsepower and the 2.0 LPG engine is only 140 horsepower. As a result, many consumers felt they had no power. As the SM6 facelift was replaced with the power train, the QM6 was also planned, but the existing power train was retained and received criticism from consumers. The diesel engine will be released later, but the 1.7 diesel is rumored to be removed.
Also, despite being a midsize SUV, it doesn’t have an all-wheel drive option. It focuses on the urban type, but it’s a shame it’s not provided as an option. The competitive models, Santa Fe and Sorento, are equipped with turbocharged petrol engines with larger displacement and there is an all-wheel drive option. As before, the QM6 all-wheel drive option will only be installed on diesel models that will be launched in the future.
For cost reduction
Disappointed consumers
When the QM6 options table was released, a cost reduction controversy arose among consumers. It is based on Pure Vision LED projectors, but it is not a matrix lamp applied to SM6 and a reflective MFR is applied. In addition, the fully digital instrument cluster applied to the SM6 and the EasyConnect option were excluded and the error-prone S-Link was retained.
In addition, the demand for the LPG model is overwhelming for the QM6 and the emergency brake assist system which includes adaptive cruise control, distance warning system and pedestrian detection only missing from the LPG. And there is no lane departure prevention assistance and lane maintenance assistance that are often installed in new cars today. The wheel has also been changed from two-tone to monotone to reduce the painting process. Consumers who expected to improve the specs couldn’t hide their disappointment.
There aren’t many changes
Midsize SUV yet affordable
Despite being a facelift, it is regrettable that there aren’t many changes, but the QM6 is expected to continue to gain popularity. As mentioned above, the price increase was only 1 million won and is 5 million won less than Santa Fe based on the basic gasoline model.
For a similar cost to the base Santa Fe price, RE Signature can be purchased, the top liner and the top liner, the Premier, can be selected for the Santa Fe Prestige liner price. Also, the Tucson, a semi-medium model, is getting more spotlight as a budget model in a situation where it’s as expensive as the QM6.
Moreover, it is still the only SUV to choose an LPG engine, saving on fuel costs. Therefore, the demand from consumers wishing to use midsize SUVs at reasonable prices and maintenance costs should continue. At least, sales should be better than Santa Fe, which is criticized. It was Auto Post Issue Plus.
