The Exodus 1 is HTC's cryptocurrency and blockchain phone. It is designed as a mobile native blockchain and to work safely with cryptocurrency and decentralized applications (dApps).
Revealed in a recent tweet by co-founder Brendan Eich, who also developed the Firefox Mozilla browser, Brave will be HTC's default browser.

HTC Exodus 1 is built with the decentralized promise of blockchain in mind. As Brave, he hopes to report ownership of personal data to individuals. For cryptocurrency owners, the phone will store the private keys in a protected "enclave" on the phone called Zion.
Although the Brave browser is not based on blockchain, Brave has the goal of decentralizing its BAT based on Ethereum. Eich himself describes the BAT platform as currently "semi-centralized" due to the need to manage how the BAT tokens are distributed, used to reward Brave publishers. Eich told TNW recently:
"Over time, we will decentralize much of the BAT platform, but as described in our roadmap, not all at once and in advance, which is neither scalable nor anonymous on today's major blockchains."
Challenge the incumbent web
What Brave Browser does is offer users the ability to block all ads and cookies, potentially offering a faster search, loading and browsing. In this way Brave hopes to take away some of the search markets dominated by Google and Microsoft, which collect huge amounts of user data.
Brave also plans to reward users who opt to view ads with BAT tokens, which advertisers must pay, potentially returning the premium from monetizing the data to the data owner. In September 2018, Brave had already reached ten million downloads and four million active users, a figure that probably would have influenced HTC's choice.
The decentralized head of HTC, Phil Chen, according to CNET, said of Brave:
"It's a challenge to the web incumbent … a model of advertising-commerce for attention that has paralyzed the internet browsing experience.We are in crisis to give away for low-cost endorphins and to cede everything the power to the monolithic cloud companies of big data that extract such data ".
Neither Brave or HTC have revealed much in terms of details about the partnership. HTC phones are popular but the blockchain-based mobile phone market is not proven. The partnership will surely help the brave ones for Brave and if the sales of Exodus 1 will go well, add Brave users to the base. The new phone is not without competition, SIRIN Labs has also unveiled its crypto-native smartphone, the FINNEY, at the beginning of this month.
