Credentials are a complicated problem but rarely discussed for doctors, health systems and health plans. When a doctor wants to start a new job or enter a new network of payers, his would-be applicant must collect a wide variety of certificates and credentials, a process that can take months or even a year.
Anthony Begando, CEO of Professional Credentials Exchange (ProCredEx), is trying to solve this problem through a network approach that uses the blockchain to verify credentials. He will talk about the exchange at HIMSS19 in Orlando.
"On average, as a point of reference, from the moment an organization says" We would like to work with Dr. Smith, we sign a contract with him and we start a process of credentials "to the point where that person is fully integrated and enrolled with payment contracts that the organization has and is providing assistance can easily be four to six months, if not more, "said Begando. "We were able to reduce this credential life cycle to 18-21 days."
The idea of ProCredEx is to create a network and an infrastructure that allows organizations to securely and securely transfer credential documents to each other, with the professional in question controlling and approving the sharing of data, usually via a & # 39; mobile app or a tablet. This network uses generalized registry technology to track and verify credentials, integrated into a network architecture that facilitates the trading of credentials.
To make the network work, ProCredEx will need to have a lot of payers, health systems and suppliers on board. This is what they have been working on since they launched at HIMSS18 at the start of this year.
"The scale is a success for us," said Begando. "You can not build a market, like a supermarket, and open it with a big fanfare, and let people in and see a lot of coffee and an old sandwich, people will not want to buy things from your market … We announced six [members]we have about 20 others, and we will probably enter the market with 12-15 organizations that bring to market the initial supply we need ".
Credentials are important for all organizations, but they become particularly important in the use of telemedicine, which can increase exponentially the number of certificates and credentials that a doctor must practice.
"If you're doing teleportation, for example, and you've got 10 neurologists at a university hospital to deliver a teleporter to about 100 critical access points within a two-mile radius of your organization, it may take years to get those 10. Neurological credentials in each of these hospitals where this frankly critical service must be delivered, "said Begando.
Begando will talk about ProCredEx, blockchain and other aspects of society such as artificial intelligence and data science, at HIMSS19 in a session titled "Leveraging Blockchain to Transform Credentialing." It is scheduled for Thursday, February 14th from 8:30 to 9:30 in the W304E room.
