On Sunday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed the existence of direct secret talks with the leaders of a number of Arab countries to normalize relations with Israel.
“There are several direct and undeclared talks with Arab and Muslim leaders to normalize relations with the State of Israel,” Netanyahu said during a press conference held by the son-in-law and adviser to US President Jared Kushner in occupied Jerusalem, on the eve of the first commercial flight between Israel and the United Arab Emirates.
The prime minister indicated that Sudan and the Sultanate of Oman are among these countries, in addition to Chad.
The planned “historic” flight arrives tomorrow, Monday, about two weeks after the announcement of the agreement for the normalization of relations between the United Arab Emirates and Israel, mediated by the United States.
The flight will be carried out Monday morning by an American-Israeli delegation led by Kushner.
On Saturday, the UAE canceled the boycott of Israeli law, according to a presidential decree, and allowed its citizens to cooperate in trade and financial cooperation with Israelis.
Israel welcomed the decision, as Netanyahu called it, in a statement released by the foreign ministry, as “an important step that will promote prosperity and peace in the region”.
For his part, Israeli Foreign Minister Gabi Ashkenazi said the UAE’s abolition of the boycott of Israel is an important step towards a true peace that produces economic and trade outcomes for the two peoples and improves stability in Middle East.
