In times of need, the community gets together.

In the tundra of the winter crypto, several companies have fired substantial parts of their staff. Groups of all sizes were affected by SpankChain (which reduced 12 to 8 people) to ConsenSys (which said it would have fired 13% of its approximately 1,200 employees). It is arguable that these cuts are influenced by the collapse of cryptocurrency prices, internal factors (such as ineffective business strategies) or a combination of the above. Regardless of this, people are unemployed.

In response to the unemployment situation, María Paula Fernández (MP) used it Twitter platform to help those affected, MP works on Golem communications, but also plays a significant role in several initiatives related to Ethereum and blockchain (he is the organizer of ETHBerlin, for example). It could be said that it is owned by Ethereum Cher.

As he travels through various events and works with many people in space, MP has developed a strong network of contacts. Although he did not have a concrete plan, he knew he could use his connections to help the community.

"Really, I did not know what I was doing [at first]," she said ETHNews. "I just started tweeting because I received a lot of requests and I have a good network of contacts because of the events and because, once again, we all travel together … It was … super organic."

His Twitter feed currently offers (growing) list of cryptic companies looking for talent, from Aragon and Parity to Neufund and the Web3 Foundation. He also created a GitHub repository so that the companies and organizations they hire can share their job offers.

In general, the community response has been extraordinarily positive; he said that many groups in space have direct-messaged or he tweeted them with opportunities. He added that he is "very happy that all these companies have started to reach", explaining that this collaboration "shows that we are truly united and that talent in this sector is the most precious thing we have in addition to the community".

Other people, inspired by the motto of MP, have created their own resources to help the community, as Dave Craige of the Studio, who has Telegram Group share the openings. Ziggy Zeidan, a "developer evangelist" at the POA network (one of the companies that MP has enhanced the signal), also believes that community support during difficult times is important. He said ETHNews:

"With the recent wave of cryptographic layoffs, a lot of great talents are now on the market and we need to provide these individuals with support as a community."

Bryce Bladon, a member of the foundation team of CryptoKitties (another company that responded to MP), also spoke. He spoke with the camaraderie of the blockchain space, telling ETHNews:

"The blockchain industry has seen many ups and downs: in all of this, the same ones who criticize each other when the times are good are those that offer support to aspiring competitors when times are difficult. and it comes from all of us who want to make the best possible future for this technology, we may not always agree on exactly what the future should be, but the people who believe in it will always be part of it ".

Many of the companies that have reached MP are trying to hire developers, of course, but have also noticed that positions in the field of developer relations, community management and UX design are important. "We mainly start to see the professionalization of this space," he continued.

Even if losing one's job is an unfortunate situation, it is also important to note that many people have respect – and overall positive relationships with – these downsizing encryption companies. For example, ConsenSys layoffs, though shocking, did not necessarily give rise to the animosity of those left behind.

In contrast, an anonymous redditor who was recently fired by the company commented "I have great respect for the ConsenSys people who work every day to build decentralized future. "He added that" some of the downsizing and pruning of ConsenSys from time to time is probably a good thing overall. "

In addition, the redditor said the layoffs were not a surprise – according to reports, the employees "said in a direct and respectful manner that a downsizing would occur".

In fact, some of the organizations that have achieved MP are ConsenSys' views, such as Gnosis and Truffle, which suggest that layoffs could represent more a change in company strategy (the so-called ConsenSys 2.0) rather than an economic downturn for the company . Downsizing is often at the heart of corporate restructuring, after all.

Considering all of this, MP said he understood ConsenSys' efforts to resize:

"It's really hard for me to see so many people put in that situation [being laid off]but at the same time I understand the situation because it concerns the growth of a company that has to resize itself because, unfortunately, it has expanded when ETH was going great. It's understandable and companies work this way. Companies must behave responsibly ".

For those currently out of work due to the recent series of layoffs, yes, it sucks. But do not worry: MP, crypto Twitter and the rest of the community give you your back.
