In the 1990s, when the web was young, companies like Yahoo created web page directories to make them more easily identifiable. Hacera wants to bring the same idea to the blockchain and today announced the launch of the Hacera Network Registry.
CEO Jonathan Levi says the currently established blockchains are likely to be isolated because people simply can not find them. If you have a project like IBM – the Maersk supply chain blockchain announced last month, how does an interested party like a supplier or customs authority find it and asks to participate? Until the creation of this register, there was no easy way to search for projects.
Early participants include perpetrators such as Microsoft, Hitachi, Huawei, IBM, SAP and Oracle, who connect to projects created on their platforms. The register supports projects based on the main digital ledger communities including Hyperledger, Quorum, Cosmos, Ethereum and Corda. While early project sponsors include IBM and Hyperledger Fabric, Levi stressed that the network is open to everyone. Blockchain projects can create information pages, not unlike a personal LinkedIn page, and Hacera checks the data before adding it to the registry. There are currently more than 20 networks authorized in the register and Hacera hopes that this is only the beginning.
Jerry Cuomo, VP of blockchain technologies at IBM, says that to grow blockchain will require a way to register, search, join and transact through a variety of blockchain solutions. "Because the number of blockchain consortia, networks and applications continues to grow, we need a means to list them and make them known to the world in order to free the power of blockchain," Cuomo told TechCrunch. Hacera is solving this problem.
This is exactly the kind of underlying infrastructure that blockchain requires to expand as a technology. Cuomo certainly recognizes him. "We realized from the start that you can not do blockchain yourself, you need a vibrant community and an ecosystem of innovators who share the vision to help transform the way companies conduct their businesses in the global economy, "he said.
Hacera understands that every cloud provider wants people to use their blockchain service. Yet they also see that to advance technology, there must be some standard ways to conduct business, and they want to provide that level. Levi has a broader view of the network beyond pure discovery. He finally hopes to provide the means to share data through the register.
