When iOS 14 first launched, the Google search app was one of the first third-party apps to add widget functionality. Today they finally extended this functionality to Gmail, Drive and Fit. Among them, the Google Fit gadget looks very practical. In addition to seeing the cumulative steps and heart rate scores of the day, you can also see the walking conditions within a week, which will be more conducive for users to pay attention to their activity records.
Gmail is relatively simple: the top of its gadget is a mail search bar, the left side is the compose button, and the right side is the unread email count. This counting reminder is a bit redundant to be honest. After all, when there are unread messages, there will be numbers on the icons. I don’t know if Google will consider replacing it with other features in the future. As for Drive, it also puts search at the top of the gadget and below it will show files you may need to quickly open.
In addition to the above, Google is also preparing gadgets for Calendar and Chrome. The first will show an overview of upcoming events and clicking on an item will bring up the calendar directly so you can see the specific details. In the Chrome gadget, the top is the search and address bar and the bottom is the incognito mode, voice search, and QR code scan buttons. According to Google, they are also preparing another smaller version of the Chrome gadget, which will hide “ancient surprises”. (Could it be the classic Chrome dinosaur?)
IPhone and iPad users who have upgraded to iOS 14 can already add the Gmail, Drive and Fit gadgets to their devices. The calendar gadgets will be available within a few weeks, while Chrome will have to wait until next year (but you can also install the beta if you want).
