The major gaming company Atari has signed a license agreement with the startup blockchain Animoca Brands to create blockchain versions of two popular mobile games. The news was announced in a press release published on December 18th.
Atari – famous for being the developer of videogames like Tetris and Pac Man – states that the agreement on rights allows Animoca to produce and publish blockchain versions of the Atari mobile games "RollerCoaster Tycoon Touch" and "Goon Squad" worldwide , excluding China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macao.
RollerCoaster Tycoon Touch, says the press release, has "19 million downloads" worldwide, and reportedly saw an increase in new features that include a "Water Park" expansion as well as a partnership with "Foodgod "Jonathan Cheban.
The two companies also joined a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to explore mutual opportunities in games, product development and blockchain technology.
Under the terms of the license agreement – extending until March 31, 2022 – The blockchain versions of Animoca of both Atari games will also include non-fungible integrated tokens (NFTs). Reportedly, the launch should publish its versions in the second half of 2019.
For the rights, it is said that Animoca has paid Atari as "a minimum guarantee against future earnings of $ 250,000, payable in shares of the share capital".
As reported earlier, this February Atari has seen its share price rise by more than 60 percent after announcing it would invest in cryptocurrency. This year, the company also created its own digital currency, the Atari token, and collaborated with an online encrypted casino.
