According to NASA lunar expert Gordon Johnston, the nickname Beaver Moon was popularized in the 1930s by the Maine Farmer’s Almanac.

It was then that the guide to astronomy, nature and folklore first published the Indian names of the Moon.

In total, there are between 12 and 13 full moons each year, with the 13th sometimes having an additional blue moon.

Each of these moons has a unique name that reflects in one way or another the changing of the season.

The April full moon, for example, comes when a type of pink flower is born in America, hence the name, the pink moon.
