Ferrari has unveiled the new SF90 Spider, based on last year’s SF90 Stradale. Like its coupe sibling, the Spider is a plug-in hybrid with all-wheel drive. In addition to the tilting roof, however, it has much more added. It is the most powerful Ferrari ever mass-produced. Last year, the SF90 Stradale became the most powerful production model the Italian brand has ever created. Now, however, Ferrari has further improved performance to compensate for the weight gain.
Like the SF90 Stradale, the Spider variant is powered by a 4.0-liter V8 engine with dual supercharging, flanked by three electric motors. The V8 has been tuned to 770 horsepower, while the electric motors add another 217 horsepower, increasing the total cumulative power to 986 horsepower, which is 14 more horsepower than its sibling.
Despite weighing 100 kg more, the Spider is as fast as the Stradale. Ferrari says 80% of the weight gain can be attributed to the tilting roof. The spider can accelerate from 0 to 100 km / h in just 2.5 seconds and reach a top speed of 340 km / h. It is equipped with the latest generation of Ferrari assistance systems. The steering wheel includes a dial that allows the driver to choose between four driving modes.
The eDrive mode is designed for electric-only operation, while the hybrid mode selects an efficient combination of a V8 engine with electric motors. Performance mode prioritizes the V8 engine and Qualify mode takes full advantage of the entire powertrain. The SF90 Spider is even faster than the legendary LaFerrari. Fiorano managed the test track with a time of 1: 19.5, which means he is two tenths faster than LaFerrari on the same circuit.
