Facebook starts taking blockchain positions, continues its secret date with cryptocurrencies

[ad_2][ad_1]

Facebook has had a very interesting relationship with blockchain and cryptocurrency. While the giant of social media technology has been strict with its advertising policies against cryptocurrencies and ICO, it seems that it is slowly building its trunk of blockchain and cryptocurrency. According to recent job offers published on the Facebook site Careers, the technology giant has opened five blockchain positions.

Facebook is about to launch a sort of cryptocurrency product

What's up to Facebook with blockchain and cryptos? This is an answer that every fan of cryptocurrency and Wall Street investor is looking for. While officially the social media giant has been silent about it, its updates on the assumptions seem to suggest that Facebook may soon launch its products on criptovalute blockchain.

Below is a screenshot of the Facebook Careers page showing the following openings.

  • Data scientist
  • Data engineer
  • Software engineer (x2)
  • Product marketing leads

While other jobs are still for developers and data guys, the one that has attracted attention is the opening of "Lead Marketing Leadership". In the tech hire business, professionals are hired by a company when a product is about to be launched. So, deduces that Facebook already has a cryptographic / blockchain product ready?

Also in the job description for the Marketing profile, Facebook mentions "we are looking for an experienced leader to build and manage a new product marketing team focused on the exploration of the opportunities that the blockchain will bring".

Regarding the minimum qualification, we read that "experience with payments or blockchain" that gives us a clue that probably will do something with payments.

This is not the first time that Facebook hires people for blockchain and cryptocurrency. A few months ago there was news that David Marcus had left the board of Coinbase to work and focus on the secret blockchain project of Facebook. Marcus joined Coinbase's board of directors in December 2017 and only 7 months later, his retirement was a shock to many. His decision to resign "was made to avoid the appearance of a conflict of interest",

"Because of the new group I'm installing on Facebook around blockchain, I decided it was appropriate for me to resign from the board of Coinbase," Marcus said in a statement released to Business Insider by a Facebook representative.

Given that Marcus' abandonment took place in August 2018, there is every chance that the Facebook product is ready for launch.

Will we see an official announcement from Facebook soon? Well, it's waiting again and watching
