11.11. is Singles Day. From a global perspective, shopping day is more profitable than Black Friday, which is much better known in this country (November 27, 2020). Singles Day is a much bigger phenomenon, especially in Asia, and this is where correspondingly high sales are achieved. Many new record sales are expected in 2020. The crown pandemic is once again giving a significantly greater boost to the online shopping business.
At MediaMarkt and Saturn, Singles Day this year seems to be primarily of interest to regulars. In other words: there are special promotions for registered customers. At MediaMarkt this is called “Club”, at Saturn it’s the “Card” customers. Registration for bonus programs is free.

Singles Day: 11% discount on everything, but not for everyone
During Singles Day – according to the countdown, the offers start at midnight – there could be an 11% discount on everything in both markets. Similar to the popular reseller VAT campaigns, there is an instant discount for all customers who identify themselves as Saturn cards or members of the MediaMarkt Club, i.e. are logged in.

The discount campaign itself has not yet been officially announced, but the general intention is to have campaigns available for repeat customers on Singles Day, so the MediaMarkt website reads “Club members save more” and “Club Exclusive Offers on Singles Day”.
However, there is reliable information about the promotion – for example on the MyDealz bargain portal – where the special promotion is indicated. The promotion restrictions too: the 11% discount does not apply to 12th generation iPhones, not the new iPad Air 4, nor Sonos products or the new Xbox Series X. The PlayStation 5 is not. explicitly excluded, but falls within the “items on booking” exclusion category. Also, currently it can hardly be pre-ordered anyway.
You have to do it for the discount
Becoming a Club and Card customer is free and includes other benefits. Registered customers can, for example, view their online invoices and receipts in their profile or enjoy a longer right of return for purchased items.
If you don’t want to be a customer of the club, Singles Day should still have some interesting offers. On the countdown pages that have already been put online, both markets generally also advertise with offers starting on Singles Day.
Bargain Hunting Tips
MediaMarkt repeatedly had similar or similar campaigns in its program at irregular intervals. Also willingly – as now – with a night start. In February, such an action took place on Super Bowl night, for example, and there was also a 16% action in October. The criticism followed immediately: there were allegations that MediaMarkt only offered popular articles in very limited quantities or even switched them to “out of stock” in advance (see reader comments). This also affected Apple’s iPhones, which sold out quickly.
Depending on the target of the offer, several things are decisive for the bargain hunt:
- In general, it is necessary to compare prices again when buying. Just because the promotion is effective does not guarantee the best prices.
- Be quick when the price is good and the product is in danger of running out quickly.
- Experience shows that the instant discount applies a few minutes before the official start. This time advantage is worth trying for some particularly popular items.

The promotion also applies “offline”, ie directly on the market, during the opening hours indicated – Wednesday 11 November. Here the discount is deducted at the checkout. The intermediate solution is convenient: buying online and collecting it in the store guarantees you the product purchased at the desired price and also saves you shipping costs. However, MediaMarkt notes that it is not possible to pay in-store for online pickup orders. So you have to order and pay online, but you can use the collection option to save on shipping costs, for example.
