From Hongfei: founder of NEO and OnchainNEO

In the wake of announcing their second edition of DevCon in Seattle, Washington, in February 2019, I had the opportunity to let NEO's founder know their expectations about the second chapter and the industry as it is today. He is very much in touch with the difficult times that the cryptography market has seen, and so he has appropriately defined "ContiNEO – We continue". This speaks of his determination and his confidence in the Smart Economy.

I met Da Hongfei, founder of NEO and Onchain and pioneer of the blockchain industry. He is a serial entrepreneur, as well as a DLT consultant for a number of banks, intermediaries and clearing houses. In 2014 he founded NEO at DLT to record, transfer and exchange digital resources and became the gold standard in the Chinese blockchain scene.

What was the general feedback on the DevCon 2018, what do you expect for 2019?

"The first DevCon has had some success, it happened in San Francisco and about 600-700 developers participated, and it showed that NEO is already a very globalized community. Many developers participated and came from all over North America and 39. Europe Initially this was only a project developed by Chinese developers, so we were really happy to see people involved from all over the world As usual, diversity always rewards and we have had many interesting discussions and many new ideas have been raised ".

Dan Boneh, a professor at Stanford University, gave a speech on crypto-skinned skin, a new cryptographic skin. We have seen during the last year that there are many companies that implement this new technology. There were many other projects that gave their first presentation to the DevCon ".

What kind of developers do you target?

"There are three types of developers, the first type being the lower-level core developers of blockchain, the second type being the developers of dApps that rely on certain blockchains, such as games and other decentralized applications. they are those who are trying to be pioneers of the blockchain transformation, while they are also trying to promote their blockchain business, probably working for big companies like Microsoft, Accenture etc. "

The venue of the event is Seattle, will some particular companies participate?

"I can not say which companies are participating, but we have invited many experienced Microsoft representatives to join us to talk and update the public, and they will introduce what their organization is doing with blockchain technology. there are so many developers there. "

We have not seen the agenda for Devcon even though the list of speakers has been published. Could you tell us more about this and the main content of the DevCon?

"The conference will cover many topics including technology issues, such as zero knowledge, cross-chain protocols, distributed storage, and quantum-proof cryptography." I think a very interesting topic will be delivered by Dr. Zhiniang Peng, a security researcher, and will talk about how he discovered some very serious sore points with blockchain technology. "

In addition to technology-oriented developers, we have also invited people from the government, Washington, from their ICT section, as well as people with a regulatory framework for DLT. The technology subjects will be most of DevCon's focus, but we also have topics of compliance, regulation and adoption by the government. "

What are your opinions on the market and what does the market reserve for 2019?

"Blockchain and the cryptocurrency industry are very different from many other industries. We have a primary market, an investment market with venture capitalists, and then we have a second more speculative market. If you want, you can look at all those prices on the market every day, every second I do not check the price very often, maybe every few weeks, unless there are big movements in the market. "

At NEO we focus more on technology, the project itself and the ecosystem. I think the market always reflects people's emotions and feelings, so I do not think it's a good indicator for the future health of the industry. "

Do you have any further information on the NEO plan for issuing the four-node consent check?

"We are in a process of decentralization of consensus nodes." In the beginning, the NEO tried to execute all seven consensus nodes, but the software was not yet mature or stable enough, so we needed a lot of updates. and optimization up to efficiency.

Today we are confident that our product is more stable and needs fewer updates, so we are distributing these consensus nodes to capable partners, including Swisscom, KPN and others. But it is still a process and we can not do it from one day to another. We still believe that it will take a year or two to become completely decentralized and let the community handle all the nodes of consensus. We are not restricting ourselves to seven knots; seven is not the magic number that can be 10.13 or even more ".

At this point, it is important to note that to ensure optimal error tolerance based on the delegated Byzantine Byzantine Tolerance (dBFT) mechanism, each new batch of new nodes should be added in batches of three. That is, after the first seven nodes of consent it should be 10, then 13 and so on. Once the 7 existing consensus nodes are completely decentralized, the number of consent nodes is likely to increase through further selection cycles at the discretion of the NEO foundation.
