Ethereum Development Study ConsenSys collaborates with the AMD computer chip manufacturer to develop a new cloud computing infrastructure based on blockchain technology.

The startup announced on Friday that it collaborated with AMD and Abu Dhabi's investment company, Halo Holdings, on W3BCLOUD, a cloud computing architecture supported by the manufacturer's computer hardware designed specifically to support applications. decentralized.

ConsenSys will provide expertise on how it might need to process blockchain transactions, as well as use cases, through this partnership.

In a statement, AMD's product management director for blockchain technology, Jerog Roskowetz, explained that the technology giant would allow ConsenSys access to "high-performance hardware technologies that scale and proliferate networks and services." decentralized ".

In turn, the platform should meet the growing demand from leading companies and government agencies to use technology to support intelligent identities, enterprise data centers, health ID tracking, licensing, and supply chain management solutions, he added.

In the statement, ConsenSys founder Joe Lubin said that boosting the computing power of blockchain networks using AMD technology will promote "the scalable adoption of emerging decentralized systems worldwide," adding:

"The combination of hardware and software will feed a new infrastructural level and will allow an acceleration of the proliferation of blockchain technologies".

Shift Blockchain

AMD chips have been popular in the management of blockchain networks, especially by retail customers seeking to extract cryptocurrencies.

At one point, 10% of AMD's quarterly revenue came from the encrypted space, the company reported last year.

Interest declined in the following months, however, with sales to miners which fell to "negligible" levels by the end of 2018.

That said, the company has previously released software updates for its miners specifically aimed at strengthening blockchain processes.

The AMD and ConsenSys spokespersons did not respond to requests for comments by time of print.
