In a recent interview, Vitalik Buterin, the co-founder of Ethereum, spoke about Shasper and the different types of ideas involved in improving the Ethereum protocol on which he and his team have been working over the past four years.
He said that many of them have quite large challenges in their protocol, where Proof-of-Work is replaced by Proof-of-Stake in mining as a consensus algorithm.
Basically it does not require every node to check every transaction, which will require different groups of nodes to verify different transactions as a means of allowing multiple transactions.
He added that there are many small improvements in terms of efficiency and the idea behind Serenity's implementation was to take all these ideas together and create a new blockchain as "looked like the White House".
The co-founder also talked about improvements in sharding and transactions, citing that in the long run, potentially, it will increase by a factor of a thousand. However, he reiterated that it will take some time to get there.
He also talked about level 2 solutions, saying they are fundamentally different from level 1 solutions. Vitalik added:
"Think of layer one how to make the highway bigger and make more motorways." Level two solutions are like having 10 cars that fit inside a truck and have more motorways to make these trucks easier. achieving scalability, and it will be, level 1 and level 2 will act as different types of methods towards similar goals and is practically climbing in different ways. "
The Lighthouse team members present with Vitalik Buterin said they were working on the basic logic and, by March 2019, aims to link these implementations together and start forming a basic blockchain.
They added that it will not be useful for people right away, but will have pieces of software that talk to each other through an appropriate network.
The team has implemented an implementation that will be a client of Ethereum's Serenity. They built it in Rust, a programming language. They will review the full technical specifications that come from the EF research and community, and then build a working piece of software.
