Vitalik Buterin, the co-founder of the third largest cryptocurrency, Ethereum, spoke of the evolution of the cryptocurrency space, in an interview with Smart Valor. He also talked about the next big wave for the cryptocurrency space for 2019.
Buterin started talking about the progress of space, emphasizing that it "definitely grew a lot". He added that in 2014 the space was full of the Ethereum team, few companies and a couple of people. He went on to say:
"Every time I come here, the space keeps growing and, at this point, it looks like it's huge, you know." It's just people in all the different universities that are interested in technology, seeing the interest from all the number of companies that are based here. "
The co-founder added that space has seen tremendous progress. He also spoke about the regulatory environment in the cryptocurrency space, stating that "it seems" to continue to be friendly. Buterin went on to say that "it's really great when you do not have one of those problems that weighs on your shoulders."
The co-founder has clarified the price of all cryptocurrencies. The cryptocurrency has suffered a huge drop since it reached its all-time high, with Ethereum losing its second position in XRP. Furthermore, most of the major cryptocurrencies in the market have lost more than half of their values from the start of this year.
On this, Vitalik believes that space currently requires more "effective applications" of technology to move forward, on which the entire team has been committed to building for a long time. He said:
"As fundamentally the next wave of cryptographic adoption will not be built on hype because the hype has basically already arrived in. It has to come from really useful applications and things that offer value to people"
