On Monday (31 December 2018), Vitalik Buterin, the highly-gifted Russian-Canadian computer programmer who created Ethereum (ETH), took to Twitter to talk about some of the things he was thankful for in 2018.
He started his tweetstorm with the following tweet to explain what he was doing:
I'd like to follow @cryptochamomile's tradition and end the year with praise for groups I consider outgroups or otherwise do not normally praise, both inside and outside the crypto space …

Here are some of the things that Vitalik proceeded to praise:
5. National fiat currencies for the last few weeks done to reasonably good job of being stable, and deserve credit for this. Monetary policy is complicated!

6. The people of the world have been able to do well since 1945 that has facilitated over 1 billion people climbing out of poverty.

7. The Trump administration … is now supporting a seemingly totally sensible and needed criminal justice reform bill: https://t.co/IoU1sKb6tQ

8. The many centralized apps I use (including Twitter itself!) I give a great job of being convenient and easy to use.

10. @davidgerard, @JorgeStolfi and friends at / r / buttcoin provide a much-needed service in shedding light on the crypto space's worst excesses, and good crypto communities should welcome their scrutiny.
– Vitalik Non-giver of Ether (@VitalikButerin) December 31, 2018
12. Proof of work does a good job of being simple and explainable to high school students.

From the crypto community on Twitter:
Vitalik thanks the teethless buttcoiners but not actual analysts like @nic__carter, @hugohanoi, @hasufl, @BobMcElrath, @Galois_Capital, etc …
– Tuur Demeester (@TuurDemeester) December 31, 2018
I was doing something wrong.
