The 51 per cent Ethereum Classic attacker reported having returned $ 100,000 to the exchange of cryptocurrencies Gate.io, a post on the blog reports of the official exchange on 12 January.
The company also noted that it attempted to contact the attacker but did not receive any response until now and did not know why the funds were returned. The declared exchange:
"If the attacker did not do it for profit, he could be a white hacker who wanted to remind people of the risks involved in blockchain consent and the security of hashing."
A hacker with a white hat is a hacker with a strong professional ethic that uses his hacking skills forever and not for personal gain. The slang file, a base of hacker culture, further explains:

On January 9, Gate.io published its 51% attack analysis, noting that a total of 54,200 ETCs in total (worth $ 271,500 at the time), had been transferred during the period of allegedly hacking. The main cryptographic exchange Coinbase stated separately on January 8 that the total amount of money involved in the reorganization of the deep chain included over 1.1 million dollars of encryption.
Gate.io notes that the current hashrate of the Ethereum Classic network is low and that it is still possible to hire sufficient computing power for another 51% attack. As a result, the number of confirmations required for Ethereum Classic deposits has been increased to 4,000 on Gate.io to safeguard against other attacks of this type.
