As expected, the recently-attended Devcon4 conference involved the elite minds of the cryptocurrency industry and discussed how to develop a multi-polar decentralized ecosystem. The event took place from October 30th to November 2nd in Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic.
Serenity Scaling Solution
The main items on the agenda were the three scaling solutions of the Ethereum network, namely Casper, Plasma and sharding. Often, Casper and Sharding solutions have been implemented simultaneously to improve the scalability on the Ethereum blockchain. As a result, the combination of these two techniques is called "shasper".
During Devcon4, Vitalik Buterin, a co-founder of Ethereum, proposed that Shasper be called Serenity. Going forward, Buterin said that Serenity would improve scalability by at least 1,000 times. Other notable features included in the Serenity solution include an improved version of the Ethereum virtual machine called eWASM and a pure punch-free consensus mechanism.
Participants in the Crypto community
Although the agenda is dominated by Ethereum issues, Devcon4 has attracted the interest of other members of the Crypto community. In this regard, Amaury Sechet, leader of Bitcoin ABC, has tweeted other projects that participated in the meeting because it would contribute to the development of the cryptographic sector. Furthermore, the Zcash community was represented by its co-founder, Zooko Wilcox. Wilcox talked about the update of Sapling which should improve the privacy and efficiency of Zcash transactions.
Improvements on the Ethereum network
Being centered on Ethereum, the Eth development team has made announcements on the technical features that will soon be implemented on the Ethereum network. These include:
- Updates Vyper – vyper is the new programming language of the Ethereum intelligent contract.
- Ethermint: a platform for resizing decentralized level 1 applications.
- IOS development kit for the implementation of smart Ethereum contracts on Apple devices.
- Yul – a mechanism to minimize gas charges in the implementation of smart contracts.
& # 39; Decentralization against isolation & # 39;
On the last day of Devocn4, Glen Weyl, chief researcher at Microsoft Research in New York, issued a keynote address titled "Decentralization Against Isolation". Weyl said that embracing collective action across different communities is the best way to protect decentralization against monopolistic governments and corporations
