This message rings the alarm bell in Corona times: Edeka has recalled the “Mir24 Disinfection Handgel” disinfectant in five federal states.

According to the company, the dimensions of the product are 50 or 100 milliliters. Some of the products contain a high amount of methanol, which has a toxic effect, Edeka Südwest said Friday as justification.

The manufacturer is not authorized to place the products on the market and has not supplied the items with the necessary child resistant closures. “Harmful effects cannot be ruled out, especially if the contents are ingested, in contact with the skin or if the contents are inhaled,” he said.

The items would be offered to Marktkauf and Edeka in Baden-Württemberg, Rhineland-Palatinate, Saarland, southern Hesse and parts of Bavaria. Customers can also return items to the store without a receipt and get a refund of the purchase price.
