After 12 weeks on the picket line, Dominion workers ratified a new collective agreement with Loblaw.
Unifor confirmed on Friday evening that the workers accepted Loblaw’s final offer and that the return to work protocol will be implemented in the coming days.
Unifor national president Jerry Dias says some improvements have been included in the final offer, but acknowledges that there is still a lot of work to be done to address wages and working conditions in grocery stores across the country.
The new four-year contract will be backdated to October 2019 and will expire on October 28, 2023.
The contract will add another 35 cents an hour to the final salary ($ 1.35 over 4 years). On a one-time basis, any part-time employee who has more than two, but less than three years of service and did not work in 2001, will move up to the minimum wage plus 40 cents.
The contract will add full-time jobs to the Newfoundland shops and include protection against the elimination of full-time jobs in the future and a path to full-time jobs for part-time workers.
Employees will receive a preloaded PC gift card for $ 500 to $ 50.
The contract covers around 1,400 workers in 11 locations in the province, who have been on strike since the end of August.
