Curiosity rover finds evidence of ancient megafloods on Mars

They believe the floods were caused by a massive meteor impact that generated enough heat to melt huge amounts of ice on the planet. The event released carbon dioxide and methane, which combined with water vapor to form a hot, humid climate for a short time. This led to torrential rains across the planet and the waters (along with sediments) that slid off Mt. Sharp flooded the Gale Crater. So what exactly does that mean?

That’s why NASA and other space agencies have been trying to find evidence of water on other celestial bodies in our solar system. “The planet had the necessary conditions to support the presence of liquid water on the surface and on Earth, where there is water, there is life,” explained Fairén. It is now the task of the Perseverance rover to find evidence of ancient life on our planetary neighbor after it landed on the Martian surface in February 2021.
