A massive coronavirus testing program was launched in Glasgow today, with two areas of the city opening temporary facilities.
The move was advanced to test asymptomatic cases – those that show no symptoms of Covid-19 – in an effort to prevent further transmission of the virus.
The tests will be offered to anyone living in Dalmarnock and Pollokshields from now until December 9th.
Approximately 800 tests per day can be conducted at each site, with results expected to be delivered within 48 hours.
Two mobile test centers have been set up in Pollokshields (in the large car park on Albert Drive, opposite the Tramway Theater) and Dalmarnock (in the Emirates Area car park.
They will be open from 9:00 to 18:00 every day until December 9th.
Anyone showing and showing no symptoms of the virus can book a test online via the UK government website (see HERE).
Complete all details and submit the online form. Confirmation will be sent with a QR code which will be scanned upon your arrival on the test site.
Residents in Pollokshields and Dalmarnock will also receive letters advising to book tests with details on how to book one.
Residents can show up if prepared for a short wait.
Drive-thru and walk-thru tests will be available to all residents.
The council and health commission said the areas were chosen after analyzing the incidence rates and identifying vulnerable groups in the communities.
Parkhead, near Dalmarknock, was the hardest hit area in Scotland due to the rise in coronavirus cases for two consecutive weeks.
