Our good friend Sean Mitchell bought a first generation Tesla Model S used years ago. He drives tons of miles for his job as a freelance real estate agent in Colorado, so he’s put a lot of miles in the car. Many thought Mitchell would be investing in a new Tesla by now, but he’s been holding on to the old Model S for the long haul. At this point, it has nearly 230,000 miles on it.
Mitchell is one of the first YouTube influencers we started following and covering on a regular basis. We were very interested in his old high-mileage Model S and its in-depth, well-researched content. So how is the Model S doing now? Would you buy it again? Do you recommend buying a Tesla?
Mitchell shares his experience with Tesla with us. For those who often wonder why they don’t have a new Model 3 or Model Y, this video can provide some insight. Importantly, many people seem to be in a hurry to buy a new car when their current car is doing well. If your car is full of problems and becomes a money pit, it might be time to move on, but if not, why rush?
If you own an older gas-powered car and plan to upgrade to an electric vehicle, it’s a good choice. However, if your car isn’t ready to be replaced yet, there’s no reason to rush it. Mitchell could have rushed to buy a Model 3 as soon as it launched, but with a perfectly capable Model S in this garage, there was really no reason to be rushed.
Sean takes a look at how much it cost him to own his Tesla Model S. He bought it in September 2016 with a 60 kWh battery. The package has been replaced and upgraded with a 75 kWh package, which is covered by warranty. Sean says the reason he bought Tesla was to reduce its operating costs as it drives so much.
In this video, Mitchell goes into all the details on costs related to charging, repairs and maintenance. Was it a good choice to buy a used Model S to replace your Subaru Legacy? Did it save him money?
There are a lot of details in the video, so take a look. So, leave us your suggestions in the comments section below.
