CNNC and its partners are known to hold 700 patents and 120 software copyrights in Hualong 1.

CNNC said, “This success shows that China has broken the foreign monopoly on nuclear technology and joined the ranks of the advanced countries,” CNNC said.

The Fuqing 5, which began construction in May 2015, is expected to go into commercial operation within the year.
